What Are TheMain Uses And Applications Of Emulsions And Resins?

Do you know what an emulsion is as well as a resin? Do you know the main uses and applications of resins and emulsions?

What Is A Resin?

Resin is an organic secretion, which occurs in different coniferous plants and trees. It has chemical properties that allow its use in the manufacture of adhesives, varnishes and food additives.

What Is An Emulsion?

Emulsions are homogeneous immiscible liquid mixtures. In general, the most common emulsions are oil with water, the process in which emulsions are prepared is known as emulsification. Resins are organic secretions, coming from different coniferous plants and trees.

There are two large groups of resins: natural and synthetic. Within these groups, there are various resins, such as:

  • Gum resins
  • Acrylics
  • Polyester
  • True resin
  • Epoxy resin

Uses And Applications Of Emulsions

  1. Acrylic Emulsion

It is a homogeneous and stable mixture, which is formed from an acrylic resin solution (น้ำยา เร ซิ่น, which is the term in Thai) mixed with water. Acrylic resin has a high resistance when exposed to direct sunlight. It is used for the preparation of paints and varnishes.

  1. Styrene-Acrylic Emulsion

Styrene-acrylic emulsions are used for the manufacture of waterproofing, decorative interior coatings, for the formulation of enamels, sealants, and varnishes.

  1. Vinyl Emulsion

Vinyl emulsions are used for the formulation of adhesives with different viscosities and different applications such as school, industrial, wood, cardboard, corrugated, paper and flexible packaging.

  1. Vinyl-acrylic emulsion

Its most common application is in the formulation of paints for interiors as well as for exteriors, such as matt, semi-matte and semi-gloss with broad performance in wash-ability and weathering, and resistance to alkaline or coastal conditions.

  1. Vinyl-Versatile Emulsion

It is used as an insulator or solvent for surfaces, due to its high adhesion. It is ideal for mineral supports and finishes.
